How To Clean A Dachshund’s Ears

sausage dogIf you’ve already chatted to your Norwich mobile dog groomer about canine care you’re sure to have already found out how best to go about cleaning your sausage dog’s ears. But if you’re a new owner, you may be wondering what exactly it is that you have to do. Here’s our guide to getting it right first time.

When your puppy is calm, have a look inside his ears to check that they’re pink and not red. Using a cotton ball or a damp cloth, wipe the insides of the ears carefully and gently. Make sure that you only wipe the parts you can see and that you do not poke anything down into the inner ear. Do not use a cotton wool bud to clean into the ear canals as you could do a lot of damage.

Keep a look out for mites and ear infections while you clean and if you think you spot something out of the ordinary, make sure you call your vet and book an appointment.

Because sausage dogs have rather large ears for dogs of their size it’s important that you focus on looking after them properly. If you don’t have the time to do it or you’d rather leave it up to the professionals, don’t hesitate to give us here at Shampooch a call. We offer a wide range of services from ear and pad cleaning to nail clipping, turbo drying and styling – all your dog’s needs catered for and you don’t even have to leave the house!
